Development of Sustainable Artificial Stone Using Granite Waste and Biodegradable Polyurethane from Castor Oil

Brazil is one of the world’s major ornamental stone producers. As a consequence, wastes are generated on large scale and usually open air disposed. Thus, it important to develop novel material reusing these accumulated wastes, aiming minimize environmental impact. The development artificial stones made with agglomerated by synthetic polymer represents an excellent alternative and, therefore, currently subject several works. This work seeks innovative containing 85%wt granite waste 15%wt vegetable polyurethane from castor oil, biodegradable resin, renewable source. purpose creating sustainable material, technically viable be applied as civil construction coating. To manufacture plates, were mixed transferred metallic mold subjected vibration, vacuum later, hot compression. presented low water absorption (0.13%) apparent porosity (0.31%) well favorable 17.31 MPa bend strength. These results confirmed through particles/matrix adhesion displayed in micrographs, addition great chemical resistance.
